The Power of the Exodus: Miracles transcend science

by Feb 25, 2013Archaeology, Bible, Blog Article, Feasts, History, Pesach

For many years archeologists have “explained away “ God’s power in the Exodus story by trying to find a scientific or natural explanation for the miracles. For example, the parting of the Red Sea has been attributed to volcano’s and the ten plagues to natural disasters. Because of this, many people have lost their faith or started doubting God’s power. This is a disgrace for God! Because it is through belief in him and his power that we know he exists. The exodus story is nothing without the miracles, because we are supposed to make them bigger and testify about them!

The Red Sea had to open, Yeshua had to be raised from the dead so we could see that God intervenes in our lives and breaks through the physical world. It had to be miraculous. Because all Glory had to go to God and not to man or nature or science!

God changes nature. He controls everything. He makes storms. His power is much bigger than we can even imagine. He changes the laws of science. It is because the laws of science and archaeology have been defied that we know a miracle took place, the Red Sea parted, and a man was raised from the dead. We know what the laws of science are. So therefore we know that when they are defied there is more out there and God is real. If you take the power of God out of exodus story, and out of the resurrection of the Messiah, than how can you have hope in God?

Do you believe God can intervene in the impossible and in your life? He can!

Undermining the miracles in the exodus story is wrong. Passover is not about minimalizing God’s miracles. It is about maximizing them, so that all generations will know what God has done and still can do. Passover is about achieving the impossible. About miracles transcending science. About God breaking through what we think is not possible, and making it possible. It is about God changing the physical world. It’s about the testimony of God’s miracles! The more we tell his testimony and what he has done, the more we hope in him and ask him to do it again. When we minimalize the miracles and try to explain them away by science then we are taking the testimony away, and less and less will happen.

I have seen legs grow longer. How is that possible? This means that matter is growing by the command of a word. There is something, where there was nothing. There is hope because God still opens the eyes of the blind, he heals cancer. He lets the lame walk. He is the great Creator. This is no magic, psychology, or mind control. God is very real and his almighty power can only be understood if we understand that He can create substance. He makes and changes history. He works through people, and does miracles through the name of the Messiah Yeshua.

He still changes matter. He makes something out of nothing. Imagine, if someone was really raised from the dead, then there is much more out there, and God can do anything. It is the power of God that caused Messiah to be raised from the dead, and it is his power we see in miracles and healing. It changes the natural physical world around us. God does that…. Not science, and not nature.

Passover is about the miraculous.

About knowing God is stronger than science.

About giving him the glory.

If you take away the miraculous out of the exodus story you undermine God’s power. You achieve the opposite of the goal of the story. Because by telling the story we know God can breach the impossible. Miracles transcend science.

The exodus story also shows us how the spiritual world works. Passover shows cycles of victory over God’s enemies and how he miraculously rescues his people. There are six passovers in the Old Testament (Moses in Egypt, Joshua in Gil Gal, Gideon, Hezekiah, Josiah, and Ezra). The death and ressurection of the Messiah was the seventh Passover.

They all have a pattern: slaves and deliverance, getting rid of foreign gods, miracles, victory over dark powers, a covenant meal between God and man by wine and bread, and authority that is passed on. The story of the exodus shows a pattern of God’s redemption. It is a cycle of freedom and of spiritual warfare. It repeats itself in time and place. The greater the victory, the bigger the Passover. When the Messiah Yeshua became the Passover lam and gave his life for us, it was the greatest Passover ever and all forces of darkness were defeated, setting mankind free from sin.

The power of God in the exodus also shows the destruction of other gods, the defeat of satan and all the powers of darkness. By the resurrection of the Messiah, he defeated the angel of death forever and all principalities of darkness were openly put to shame (Col 2:14). By celebrating Passover we are reminding the darkness that they are defeated, and putting them to shame again. We proclaim their defeat out loud ! The best testimony you can give is the miracle of Passover!

The miracle of Yeshua defeating death!

God’s word is stronger than science.

So this Passover, stop trying to figure out how the miracles happened. Glorify God by speaking about his miracles to your family and believe in the impossible. Speak about How great he is! How incredible it is that he defeated the Egyptians and set the slaves free. How amazing it is that the Messiah died on the same day as Passover, and defeated the darkness in the spiritual world and by defeating death itself. He set all mankind free from the slavery of sin and showed us how to get back to the promised land.

“O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord. Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore. Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth” (Psalm 105:1-5)
