Son of God in Dead Sea Scrolls

by Sep 11, 2019Messiah IN Archaeology

There are a lot of mysteries in archaeology. An intriguing one comes from the Dead Sea Scrolls. Whatever interpretation one gives to this evidence, this scroll shows that the term “SON of GOD” was already associated with the prophecy of the Messiah in Israel and early Judaism a hundred years before Yeshua/Jesus. This scroll comes from Daniel and shows that the Messiah would be called: “SON of GOD”. This term was not added to the definitive version of the Hebrew Bible.

“The Dead Sea Scrolls contain extensive apocalyptic literature relating to the final messianic battle at the End of Days. The Aramaic Apocryphon of Daniel describes either a messianic figure or a boastful ruler that will arise as “Son of God” or “Son of the Most High”, like the apocalyptic redeemer in the biblical book of Daniel. The text calls to mind the New Testament proclamation of the angel Gabriel concerning the new-born Jesus: “He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High… ” (Luke 1:32)
