God’s faithfulness is eternal. He is faithful to you and also to His covenant with Israel. 75 years ago God did a great miracle and fulfilled more than 225 scriptures in the Bible about the return of the Jewish people to the land of Israel. God kept His promises to Israel, and this shows He is trustworthy and will also keep His promises to you. For He is Faithfull who promised (Hebrews 10:23) and all His promises are yes and Amen (2 Cor. 1:20). So when you see the good things God is doing for Israel, it should give you great faith because it shows the Bible is very real.
According to the Hebrew calendar Israel’s 75th independence day was on the 5th of Iyyar (25/26 april). On the Gregorian calendar it will be on the 14th of May 2023. God brought His people out from among the nations and Israel was the result. They were surrounded by seven Arab armies, and survived against all odds. It is a celebration of God’s miracles.
Now 75 years later, we are seeing the fig tree blooming (in Matthew 24 the fig tree refers to Israel). The Lord has also promised to pour His Spirit out over Israel. We believe this has already started. Many Jewish people are having dreams of Yeshua and He is awakening His people. We also had dreams of Yeshua and He called us to return to the land 3 years ago. We are welcoming Yeshua in the Galilee and praying for revival in Israel. In the 1960’s and 1970’s many Jews were saved during the Jesus movement in America, including Asher Intrater, Michael Brown and Eitan Shishkoff. My pastor Terry Morrey, who is Jewish, was saved in the 1970’s when she went to a Kathryn Kuhlman meeting and was miraculously healed. Those people moved to Israel and birthed the messianic movement. Today, a second generation of Jewish believers, who were born in Israel, are preaching the gospel and on fire for Yeshua-Jesus. Organizations such as Revive Israel, Shelanu tv, One for Israel, Tree of Life ministries and many more are actively reaching their people. We all feel a shift in the air!
Is it fair… a chosen nation?
Though the Bible speaks continually about the promises to Israel, many people think it is not “fair” that God chose a nation. Because God loves all people, right? Yes He does! He loves the Dutch, Russians, Ukrainians, Jews, Iranians, Palestinians, etc. And He wants to save them all. But in the Bible God chooses. God chose Abraham. Jesus chose His disciples and He chose you! According to John 15:16 you did not chose Him but He chose you. He did not chose you when you were perfect, He chose you when you were still a sinner and saved you purely through His grace. So Christians are also chosen! He chose us when we were living in sin and He pulled us out of the darkness into the light. BUT what about your neighbors or friends? Many of them are still in darkness. Why didn’t He chose them? Sounds like it’s NOT fair!
It is fair. Why? Because Jesus chose you for a reason. Not because you were perfect. Not because we deserved it. In John 15:16 Jesus says: “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”
Jesus chose you to bear fruit. To save others. To shine His light into the world.
God choses because He uses us to help save the world. That is also the reason why God chose Israel. He chose an entire nation so he could show the people that He is faithful to His word, and they could shine His light to others. But people criticize Israel, because they are not perfect, and haven’t accepted the Messiah yet. Indeed there is a lot of sin in this country, and things sometimes go wrong. But Paul says that Israel doesn’t believe in the Messiah yet for 2 reasons:
- The gospel could go into all the world and save YOU!
In Romans 11:25-27 it says that because of Israel ’s unbelief the gospel would go into all the world: “I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, and in this way all Israel will be saved.” Because Israel didn’t believe the gospel it went into all the nations and you received your salvation.. God Himself gave them their hardening of heart so that others could be saved. Romans 11:11-12 says: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all! Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious.” Paul warns Christians not to be boastful against Israel because eventually the gospel will come back to Israel and all Israel will be saved.
- It will be by grace, not on works.
Paul says in Romans 11:6 that Israel’s salvation will not be based on works, just as yours was not. It will be based on grace. “And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.” Romans 11:6. God did not say to Israel that He would save them because they were perfect. If that was the case then there would be no need for grace. Israel is not perfect, and neither are you. The amazing thing is that God loved us when we were sinners (John 3:16), and He loves Israel also despite its sin. I often hear Christians judging Israel for things Israel is doing wrong, and I remind them that they are also not yet perfect. Christians were saved when they did not deserve it. God did not save you because you were perfect. He saved you because through you He wants to save others. And he also loves Israel. Israel does not believe yet in the Messiah Yeshua, but they are still chosen and have Gods promises and will be saved because of God’s grace, faithfulness and love.
The birthing of God’s promises
According to Paul, God’s loyalty to Israel is based on His covenant promises and those promises are eternal. (Romans 11:28-29) “but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.” Irrevocable means it does not depend on works but grace. It is eternal. How faithful is our God!
Those promises came into fulfillment in 1948 and are still happening now, 75 years later. When we see God keeping His promises for Israel, it should encourage every Christian! Because this means He will also keep His promises to you… even if you mess up! All His promises are truth: for you, for the Netherlands, and for Israel. So let’s celebrate that God is faithful and keeps His promises!
Spiritual warfare and the future
The coming years might not be easy for Israel. In Ezekiel we read that the Lord will pour His spirit out over Israel after many nations come against Israel (Ezekiel 38-39). Indeed every time God kept His promise to Israel the devil tried to stop it! In 1948 Israel was started after a great war. The enemy knows that when Israel receives it full promises and all Israel will be saved great power will be released. “For if their rejection brought reconciliation to the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?” Romans 11:15. God promised in Ezekiel 39:25-29 that once they dwell in the land, He would pour His spirit over them, but it will not go without struggle. During these end times, when all nations come against Israel, it’s important to stand on God’s promises for Israel and to remember God will prevail.

Israël 75 jaar: Gods trouw is eeuwig
Gods trouw is eeuwig. Hij is trouw aan jou en ook aan Zijn verbond met Israël. 75 jaar geleden deed God een groot wonder en vervulde meer dan 225 Bijbel verzen over de terugkeer van het Joodse volk naar het land Israël. God hield zich aan Zijn beloften aan Israël, en dit laat zien dat Hij ook betrouwbaar is voor jou. Want Hij is getrouw die beloofd heeft (Hebreeën 10:23) en al Zijn beloften zijn ja en Amen (2 Kor. 1:20). Dus als je de goede dingen ziet die God voor Israël doet, zou dat je een groot geloof moeten geven, omdat het laat zien dat de Bijbel echt is.
Volgens de Hebreeuwse kalender viel de 75e Onafhankelijkheidsdag van Israël op 5 Iyyar (25/26 april). Op de Gregoriaanse kalender is dat op 14 mei 2023. God bracht Zijn volk uit de volkeren en Israël was het resultaat. Ze werden omsingeld door zeven Arabische legers en overleefden tegen alle verwachtingen in. Het is een viering van Gods wonderen.
Nu 75 jaar later zien we de vijgenboom bloeien (in Mattheüs 24 verwijst de vijgenboom naar Israël). De Heer heeft ook beloofd Zijn Geest over Israël uit te storten. We denken dat dit al is begonnen. Veel Joodse mensen dromen van Jezus en Hij maakt Zijn volk wakker. We hebben ook dromen gehad over Jezus en Hij riep ons 3 jaar geleden om terug te keren naar het land. We verwelkomen Jezus in Galilea en bidden voor opwekking in Israël. Tussen de jaren 1960 en 1970 werden veel Joden gered tijdens de Jezus-beweging in Amerika, waaronder Asher Intrater, Michael Brown en Eitan Shishkoff. Mijn voorganger Terry Morrey, die joods is, werd in de jaren 70 gered toen ze naar een bijeenkomst van Kathryn Kuhlman ging en werd op wonderbaarlijke wijze genezen. Die mensen verhuisden naar Israël en brachten de messiaanse beweging voort. Tegenwoordig predikt een tweede generatie Joodse gelovigen, die in Israël zijn geboren, het evangelie en staat in vuur en vlam voor Jezus. Organisaties zoals Revive Israel, Shelanu tv, One for Israel, Tree of Life ministries en nog veel meer bereiken actief hun mensen. We voelen allemaal een verschuiving in de lucht!
Is het eerlijk… een uitverkoren natie?
Hoewel de Bijbel voortdurend spreekt over de beloften aan Israël, denken veel mensen dat het niet “eerlijk” is dat God een natie heeft gekozen. Omdat God van alle landen houdt, toch? Ja, dat doet Hij! Hij houdt van Nederlanders, Russen, Oekraïners, Joden, Iraniërs, Palestijnen etc. En Hij wil ze allemaal redden. Maar in de Bijbel kiest God. God koos Abraham. Jezus koos Zijn discipelen en Hij koos jou! Volgens Johannes 15:16 heb jij niet voor Hem gekozen, maar Hij voor jou. Hij koos je niet toen je volmaakt was, Hij koos je toen je nog een zondaar was en redde je puur door Zijn genade. Christenen zijn ook uitverkoren! Hij koos ons toen we in zonde leefden en Hij trok ons uit de duisternis naar het licht. MAAR hoe zit het met je buren of vrienden? Velen van hen tasten nog in het duister. Waarom koos Hij hen niet uit? Is dat eerlijk?
Ja, het is eerlijk. Waarom? Omdat Jezus jou heeft uitgekozen met een reden. Niet omdat je perfect was. Niet omdat we het verdienden. In Johannes 15:16 zegt Jezus: “Niet u hebt Mij uitverkoren, maar Ik heb u uitverkoren, en Ik heb u ertoe bestemd dat u zou heengaan en vrucht dragen, en dat uw vrucht zou blijven, opdat wat u ook maar van de Vader vraagt in Mijn Naam, Hij u dat geeft.”
Jezus heeft jou uitgekozen om vrucht te dragen. Om anderen te redden. Om Zijn licht in de wereld te laten schijnen.
God kiest omdat Hij ons gebruikt om de wereld te redden. Dat is ook de reden waarom God Israël koos. Hij koos een hele natie zodat Hij mensen kon laten zien dat Hij trouw is aan Zijn Woord, en zij konden Zijn licht laten schijnen. Maar mensen bekritiseren Israël, omdat het licht nog niet altijd schijnt, en ze de Messias nog niet hebben aanvaard. Er is inderdaad veel zonde in dit land en er gaat wel eens iets mis. Maar Paulus zegt dat Israël om 2 redenen nog niet in de Messias gelooft:
- Het evangelie kan de hele wereld in gaan en jou redden!
In Romeinen 11:25-27 staat dat vanwege het ongeloof van Israël het evangelie de hele wereld in zou gaan: “Want ik wil niet, broeders, dat u geen weet hebt van dit geheimenis (opdat u niet wijs zou zijn in eigen oog), dat er voor een deel verharding over Israël is gekomen, totdat de volheid van de heidenen is binnengegaan. En zo zal heel Israël zalig worden,” Paulus waarschuwt christenen zelfs om niet op te scheppen tegen Israël, want uiteindelijk zal het evangelie naar Israël terugkeren en zal heel Israël worden gered.
Omdat Israël het evangelie niet geloofde, ging het naar alle naties en ontving u uw redding. God Zelf gaf hun hun verharding van hart zodat anderen gered konden worden. Romeinen 11:11-12 zegt: “Zijn zij soms gestruikeld met de bedoeling dat zij vallen zouden? Volstrekt niet! Door hun val echter is de zaligheid tot de heidenen gekomen om hen tot jaloersheid te verwekken. Als dan hun val voor de wereld rijkdom betekent en hun verlies rijkdom voor de heidenen, hoeveel te meer hun volheid!”
- Genade, niet door werken.
Paulus zegt in Romeinen 11:6 dat Israëls redding niet gebaseerd zal zijn op werken, net zoals die van jou dat niet was. Het zal gebaseerd zijn op genade. “Maar als het door genade is, is het niet meer uit de werken, anders is genade geen genade meer.” God zei niet tegen Israël dat Hij hen zou redden omdat ze volmaakt waren. Als dat het geval was, zou er geen behoefte Zijn aan genade. Israël is niet perfect, en jij ook niet. Het mooie is dat God van ons hield toen we zondaars waren (Johannes 3:16), en Hij houdt ook van Israël ondanks haar zonde. Ik hoor christenen vaak Israël beoordelen op dingen die Israël verkeerd doet, en ik herinner ze eraan dat ze ook nog niet perfect zijn. Christenen werden gered door het bloed van Jezus toen ze het niet verdienden. God heeft je niet gered omdat je perfect was. Hij redde je omdat Hij door jou heen andere wil redden. En hij houdt ook van Israël. Israël gelooft nog niet in de Messias Yeshua, maar ze zijn nog steeds uitverkoren en hebben Gods beloften en zullen gered worden vanwege Gods genade, trouw en liefde.
God’s beloften voor Israel
Volgens Paulus is Gods loyaliteit aan Israël gebaseerd op Zijn verbondsbeloften en die beloften zijn eeuwig (Romeinen 11:28-29). “Zij zijn weliswaar wat het Evangelie betreft vijanden vanwege u, maar wat de verkiezing betreft geliefden vanwege de vaderen. Want de genadegaven en de roeping van God zijn onberouwelijk.” Onberouwelijk betekent dat het niet afhangt van werken maar van genade. Het is eeuwig. Hoe trouw is onze God!
Die beloften kwamen in 1948 in vervulling en gebeuren nu, 75 jaar later, nog steeds. Als we zien dat God Zijn beloften voor Israël nakomt, zou dat elke christen moeten bemoedigen! Omdat dit betekent dat Hij ook Zijn beloften aan jou zal nakomen… zelfs als je het verprutst! Al Zijn beloften zijn waarheid: voor jou, voor Nederland en voor Israël. Dus laten we vieren dat God trouw is en zijn beloften nakomt!
Geestelijke oorlogsvoering en de toekomst
De komende jaren zullen misschien niet gemakkelijk worden voor Israël. In Ezechiël lezen we dat de Heer Zijn Geest over Israël zal uitstorten nadat vele naties tegen Israël zijn opgetrokken (Ezechiël 38-39). Inderdaad, elke keer dat God Zijn belofte aan Israël hield, probeerde de duivel het tegen te houden! In 1948 ontstond Israël na een grote oorlog. De vijand weet dat wanneer Israël de volledige beloften ontvangt en heel Israël zal worden gered, er grote kracht zal worden vrijgegeven. ” Want als hun verwerping verzoening voor de wereld betekent, wat betekent dan hun aanneming anders dan leven uit de doden?” Romeinen 11:15. God beloofde in Ezechiël 39:25-29 dat als ze eenmaal in het land zouden wonen, Hij Zijn geest over hen zou uitstorten, maar dat zal niet zonder strijd gaan. In deze eindtijd, waarin alle naties tegen Israël komen, is het daarom belangrijk om vast te houden aan Gods beloften voor Israël en te onthouden dat God zal zegevieren.
